Wealth categories - how much wealth do the wealthy have?

Wealth Categories: One way to classify the wealthy is to categorize the wealthy on the basis of the assets they own. This should include all investments in debt and equity based investments, but does not include the value of any houses or residential property they own. Investment property should be added in, but all debt and especially all mortgages outstanding must be deducted to arrive at the net investible wealth.

Category I
$1 to $10 million : Sufficient to provide a luxurious lifestyle, but the US Securities and Exchange Commission has proposed to increase the minimum level of liquid wealth required to be considered a high net-worth individual to $2.5 million or even $5.0 million

Category II
$10 to $100 million : Sufficient to provide a luxurious lifestyle in any location worldwide. Global asset allocation model with wealth protection by a series of independent trusts.

Category III
$100 million to $1 billion : About 15000 families around the world. Multiple trusts and other asset structures.

Category IV
$1 billion to $100 billion : An estimated 1000 individuals with this amount of wealth worldwide.
